    The following are employment opportunities within the Northwestern University Department of Athletics and Recreation.


    The position is primarily a customer service position with a focus on problem solving and ticket sales. Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week. This includes scheduled office hours (the office is open Monday - Friday 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.), and some events during the evening and weekends as assigned; this includes some holidays and school vacations. The applicant will be responsible for handling customer inquiries, the sale and distribution of event tickets. Must possess good communications skills, ability to multitask on several different projects at once and be able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Must have a working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office and be able to operate the computerized ticketing system. Basic knowledge of math and cash handling is a must. Previous customer service experience is a plus. The applicant must be able to pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment.     The Northwestern University Athletic Department hosts internship positions each quarter within the Marketing Department. Interns within the Marketing Department receive a comprehensive overview of all aspects of collegiate marketing including gameday operations, in-game promotions, event planning, ticket sales and other work as assigned. Internships are unpaid positions and are open to all undergraduate and graduate school students who need an internship to fulfill part of their curriculum. Internships can be completed both for school credit or as an unpaid position. Interns report to the Director of Marketing, but will work closely with all NU marketing staff.

    NORTHWESTERN SPORTS MARKETING ASSOCIATION (Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students as well as aspiring Chicagoland sports business professionals)

    The Northwestern Sports Marketing Association has opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in getting real sports marketing and promotions experience all while being a part of Wildcat Athletics. Membership in the Northwestern Sports Marketing Association requires a time commitment to assist the Northwestern Athletic Department at select home sporting events throughout the academic year. The association can be a huge resume builder for anyone interested in marketing, and especially sports marketing. Members of the association also benefit by being provided the inside track on internship and job openings in professional and college athletics across the country. Plus, you get a real inside look on how athletic departments are run.

    NORTHWESTERN ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT ASSISTANTS (all positions currently filled for 2014-15)

    Students assistants in the Northwestern Athletic Communications office are afforded the opportunity to earn hands-on experience in the public relations field while working in collegiate athletics. Individuals will be responsible for assisting the full-time staff in all aspects of publicity for the athletics department and the University's 19 varsity sports. Duties include working at home sporting events, production of game programs, writing news releases, updating the athletics website (, photo editing, archiving, social media, media relations and various other duties as assigned. Ability to work some night and weekend hours are necessary. Experience working with InDesign and Photoshop are preferred but not required.

    The Northwestern University Athletics Compliance Office has volunteer opportunities available for two part-time compliance interns interested in gaining hands-on experience in intercollegiate athletics compliance. Interns will assist the athletics compliance office staff with working to ensure that Northwestern University's athletics department operates in full accordance with all NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University rules. The opportunity is designed for recent graduates or current graduate students who aim to work in intercollegiate athletics. Candidates must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week and may be asked to contribute with weekend or evening work, where applicable.     NORTHWESTERN ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT SERVICE DEPARTMENT OPPORTUNITIES (Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students as well as aspiring athletic equipment professionals)

    The Northwestern University Athletic Department has volunteer opportunities in the fall and winter for undergraduate and graduate students interested in obtaining athletic equipment experience. The Northwestern Athletic Equipment Service Department (NAESD) services the athletic apparel needs of all 19 intercollegiate sports programs as well as staff. The NAESD is seeking individuals who are self-starters and can work effectively in an independent and team environment. Individuals will receive an overview of all aspects of athletic equipment operations including gameday operations, inventory control, organization and other work as assigned.
