EVANSTON, Ill. -- Pat Baldwin, an assistant coach at Northwestern for the past four seasons, has been named the head men's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee the school announced Tuesday.

"I couldn't be more excited for Pat, Shawn and their children for this opportunity at Milwaukee," Northwestern head coach Chris Collins said. "Pat has been an integral part of everything that we have done over the last four years as well as during his time here as a student-athlete. He is more than ready to be an outstanding head coach and we wish him nothing but the best as he heads to Milwaukee."

"The entire Wildcats community is thrilled for Pat Baldwin, an outstanding representative of our university," said Northwestern Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips. "He was an exceptional student-athlete, and has been an incredible mentor for our young men during his tenure on the men's basketball staff. Pat's limitless enthusiasm, vast knowledge of the game, relentless work ethic, and steadfast commitment to the student-athlete experience have prepared him for this opportunity. This is a spectacular hire by Amanda Braun to lead the Panthers, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for Pat, Shawn, Patrick, Tatum, Brooke and Claire, who will always be a part of the Wildcats family."

A 1994 graduate of Northwestern, Baldwin was instrumental in leading his alma mater to new heights during his time as a member of Chris Collins' coaching staff. The 2016-17 season saw the Wildcats post a school-record 24 victories with the team earning its first NCAA tournament appearance and win in school history.

Northwestern's march to the NCAA tournament saw the team win 10 conference games for the first time since the 1932-33 season, including the program's first six-game league winning streak since that same campaign.

The Wildcats' 18-3 start to the season earned them an Associated Press top-25 ranking, Northwestern's first appearance in the poll in seven years.

The school's all-time leader in career steals and one-time leader in assists (currently third), Baldwin was instrumental in tutoring junior guards Bryant McIntosh and Scottie Lindsey to All-Big Ten honors this past season.

One year after McIntosh set the school single-season record for assists, he broke Northwestern's career mark in the category while being named a consensus second-team all-conference selection. McIntosh's 2016-17 season saw him become the first NU player to lead the Big Ten Conference in assists, dating back to 1975.

Lindsey emerged as one of the most improved players in the Big Ten, scoring in double figures in each of the team's first 20 games of the season prior to being sidelined due to illness. He went on to average 14.1 points per game, second on the team to only McIntosh (14.8 ppg) while being named a third-team All-Big Ten pick of the league's head coaches and an honorable mention selection of the media.

Prior to his time on the Wildcats' coaching staff, Baldwin served as an assistant coach at Missouri State, Loyola Chicago, UW-Green Bay and Lincoln University.
