EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern senior wide receiver Austin Carr has been named one of three finalists for the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy awarded to the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.

Carr, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Washington State quarterback Luke Falk were chosen from 52 nominees that were narrowed down to 10 semifinalists last week.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony on Dec. 5 in Springdale, Arkansas, and is presented by the Springdale Rotary Club.

Carr has been among the nation's best receivers this season, ranking sixth in the country with a Northwestern single-season record 12 touchdowns. He ranks ninth nationally with 1,102 receiving yards and 7.5 receptions per game. He has caught a touchdown in eight of 10 games, including a nation-best streak of six-consecutive games from Sept. 10 to Oct. 22.

Below is a list of Carr's accomplishments in 2016 thus far:
• Leads the Big Ten in receptions (75), receiving yards (1,102) and touchdowns (12).
• Six 100-yard receiving games (Career-high 158 at Ohio State on Oct. 29).
• Three multi-touchdown games (Career-high 3 at Iowa on Oct. 1).
• Averaging 8.1 catches and 117 yards receiving in Big Ten play.
• Tied the Northwestern single-season touchdown reception record with 12 and is on pace to set a new single-season yard mark.
• On pace to become just the third player since 1990 to lead the Big Ten in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns (Allen Robinson, Penn State, 2012; Desmond Howard, Michigan, 1990).
• The difference between Carr (75 rec.) and the Big Ten's No. 2 pass catcher (57 rec.) is same gap between No. 2 and No. 9.
• The difference between Carr (1,102 yards) and the Big Ten's No. 2 in receiving yards (793) is greater than gap between No. 2 and No. 13.
• The difference between Carr (12 touchdowns) and the Big Ten's No. 2 in touchdown grabs (7) is same between as No. 2 and No. 29.
• Rated the No. 1 slot receiver in college football by Pro Football Focus.
• Rated the No. 2 wide receiver overall by Pro Football Focus.

Fans are allowed to vote for their favorite player via the "GREATER" Fan Vote. Voting can be accessed at www.burlsworthtrophy.com.  Fans are limited to one vote per day, and the voting will conclude on Dec. 1 at 12:00 a.m. CST. The 3 finalists will be honored and the winner of the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy will be announced Dec. 5 at a banquet in Springdale, Ark., sponsored by the Springdale Rotary Club.

The trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth. Without one D1 scholarship offer, Brandon walked on to the Razorback team in 1994, worked his way to being a three-year starter and was eventually named an All-American in 1998. Burlsworth was selected as the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, in particular those children who have limited opportunities.

The Fan Vote counts as 5 percent during each round of voting, and it is combined with the results from the Selection Committee. Fans can cast their vote for the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on once per day. Fan Vote totals are cleared after each round.
