No. 22 #B1GCats Continue to Roll With Win Over Iowa
10/13/2016 9:20:00 PM | Women's Soccer
IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 22 Northwestern continued Big Ten play with a 1-0 win over Iowa on Thursday night as junior Kim Jerantowski's second-half goal proved to be the difference maker in the Wildcats' victory.
With the win, NU advances to 13-1-1 on the year with a 6-1-1 mark in league action.
The #B1GCats defense stepped up once again, as Northwestern chalked up its 11th shutout of the season behind another flawless effort from junior goalkeeper Lauren Clem.
It was Iowa that came out on the attack in the early going, peppering Clem with the first three shots of the game. A great opportunity for the Wildcats' arose midway through the first half, as a header from sophomore Kayla Sharples sailed just over the crossbar. Chicago's Big Ten Team picked up steam and held the Hawkeyes to just one shot for the remainder of the half.
Jerantowski scored the game's lone goal early in the first half after finishing a setup from classmate Nikia Smith. With the goal, Jerantowski became the 'Cats 15 goal scorer of the season.
It would be all the offense that Northwestern would need.
The Wildcats' held off a couple of late opportunities for Iowa in the second half, but continued to apply pressure that kept the Hawkeyes on their heels.
Northwestern returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a 1:05 p.m., matchup with the Cornhuskers.
