9/3/2015 2:15:00 PM | 'Cats Give Back
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Evanston's 'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Block Party will turn Sherman Avenue into a great place for the whole family to play. The block party will be held on Thursday, September 24 from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in downtown Evanston. Sherman Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Church and Davis Streets to allow children, students of all ages, and adults to participate in games, activities and crafts, while listening to live music on stage.
The Northwestern University and Evanston Township High School Marching Bands will perform, and special guests will fire up the crowd in anticipation of the NU Wildcat and ETHS Wildkit football games to be played that weekend. The following food vendors are scheduled to be on site: Babycakes, Grill Chasers, La Cocinita, Pierogi Wagon, Sweet Ride Chicago, and Krave. The first 200 hotdogs will be free, thanks to sponsorship by First Bank & Trust.
Discounted football tickets will be sold at the Block Party in order to help fill Ryan Field stadium with a sea of purple at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, when the Wildcats will play Ball State. Discounted tickets also may be purchased at NUSPORTS.COM with the code PURPLE until Friday, September 25.
To beat the traffic, guests are encouraged to ride their bike or take public transportation to the event. The block party is just steps from the CTA and Metra Davis Street stations. Indoor Bike Parking is located on the 2nd floor of the Sherman Plaza Self Garage (821 Davis St.) and a number of bike racks are located at the corner of Church and Sherman near the Barnes and Nobles Bookstore.
The Block Party is sponsored by the City of Evanston, Northwestern University, Downtown Evanston, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Evanston Township High School, and Evanston/Skokie School District 65. For more information, please visit cityofevanston.org/kitsandcats, or call or text 847-448-4311.
