GWANGJU, Korea -- After sharing the same sideline for four years at Northwestern, Wildcats head coach Joe McKeown and former guard Karly Roser will be squaring off against one another Monday with much more than bragging rights on the line. McKeown's USA Basketball team will face Roser and Team Canada for the women's basketball gold medal at the World University Games.

Both teams are 5-0 heading into the winner-take-all affair that will tip off Monday at 6 p.m. local time at Yeomju Gymnasium in Gwangju. The game will air live on ESPNU in the United States at 5 a.m. EDT/4 a.m. CDT on Monday.

The USA finished 3-0 in Group B with wins against Italy, China and the Czech Republic. Canada, winners of Group A, knocked off Hungary in double overtime to open the tournament before beating host Korea and Mozambique. The United States defeated Hungary by 41 points in the quarterfinals before needing double overtime to outlast Japan in the semifinals. Canada downed the Czech Republic and Russia in the medal round to advance to Monday's finale.

The two teams are more than somewhat familiar with one another. The USA and Canada faced off in a pre-tournament scrimmage on Friday, July 3 with the Red, White and Blue winning the workout, 68-51. In addition to the familiarity between McKeown and Roser, there are two sets of college teammates that will be on opposite sides of the floor Monday. From the United States, Oregon State's Sydney Wiese will be up against her teammate from the Beavers, Ruth Hamblin of Canada. Arizona State's Katie Hempen will don the USA uniform Monday night against fellow Sun Devil Quinn Dornstauder.

"It should be a great game," said McKeown about the task at hand of facing Roser and her teammates Monday night. "Canada played really, really well against Russia tonight. We're going to have to really guard them. For fans of the World University Games, you're going to see two teams have had a great tournament. It should be a lot of fun.

"I was really proud of Karly," added McKeown. "It was really surreal scouting the game between Russia and Canada. I was watching her and cheering for her. She made a big plays and I was like 'good job Karly.' Regardless of what happens Monday, I'm just really proud of her and what she's meant to Northwestern and her country."
