
Wildcats Welcome George R. R. Martin To Ryan Field Saturday

Northwestern graduate and man behind "Game of Thrones" to be honored during game against Penn State
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will welcome 1970 graduate and best-selling author George R. R. Martin, whose work has been adapted into HBO's acclaimed Game of Thrones series, to Ryan Field this Saturday, Nov. 7, for NU's 11 a.m. game against Penn State.

Martin is receiving the Medill Hall of Achievement alumni award on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and will be recognized for the honor on the field during Saturday's game. Northwestern's Wildcat Marching Band will perform selections from Game of Thrones during a special halftime show while students who arrive early will receive a limited-edition giveaway shirt.
Northwestern's social media accounts will celebrate Game of Thrones all week long, beginning Tuesday morning on the Northwestern Athletics Facebook Page.
More than 60 million copies of Martin's books are in print, and he is co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. Martin was named to the 2011 edition of the "Time 100," Time magazine's list of the "most influential people in the world." The television series has won multiple Emmy Awards, including Best Drama Series in 2015.
Wednesday's Medill event features an onstage Q & A session at 4 p.m. at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St. The event is open to Northwestern students, faculty and staff. Free tickets are available through the Norris Box Office.
