EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head men's basketball coach Chris Collins today announced that Mike Turner intends to transfer from the school in order to seek playing opportunities elsewhere.

"Mike felt that it was in his best interest to pursue another institution to continue his career," Collins said. "We support his decision fully and we're grateful for his contributions to Northwestern. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors and will help him however we can in his search."

A Chicago native, Turner opted to take a leave of absence from the program in September and has not appeared in a game this season. A year ago as a redshirt freshman, he saw action in all 32 contests including making three starts. He averaged 1.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 15.8 minutes per contest.
