Northwestern’s all-time leading scorer and shot blocker, John Shurna was an Associated Press All-American and consensus All-Big Ten first-team selection in his senior season with the Wildcats. During that campaign, Shurna averaged 20.0 points per game to win the Big Ten scoring crown, the first Wildcat to do so since Ray Ragelis in 1951.

After starting every game for Northwestern as a freshman and averaging just 7.3 points per game, Shurna exploded onto the national scene during his sophomore season with 18.2 points per game to earn the title of Most Improved Player in the Nation from Sporting News. He was a consensus second-team All-Big Ten choice that year.

A two-time Wooden Award and 2011-12 Naismith Award watch list member, Shurna was selected as one of the top-30 midseason semifinalists for the Wooden Award during his junior season.

Shurna was the 27th player in Big Ten history to reach the 2,000 career points mark, finishing with 2,038 points. In four-career postseason games, he averaged 23 ppg. Shurna has gone on to a successful career in Europe.
