    Graduate Assistant (Sports Performance)

    Justin Blatner joined the Northwestern Sports Performance department as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2012. Blatner oversees men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's fencing while assisting with men's basketball. In his first year men's soccer took first in the Big Ten and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament, and women's fencing finished 11th overall at the NCAA combined championships.

    Blatner came to Northwestern after interning eight months at NC State University primarily assisting with men's basketball, baseball and wrestling. He was also the lead for coaching Cheerleading in the spring and Diving in the fall. Prior to Blatner's time at NC State, he spent the summer of 2011 in an internship as a Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach for Minnesota Twins rookie ball affiliate in Elizabethton, Tenn.

    A native of Pullman, Wash., Blatner graduated in May 2011 from Washington State University earning a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and a second Bachelor's in Economics. While at Washington State he was a volunteer student coach for four years assisting in some facet with all 15 Division I sports.

    Blatner holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and USA Weightlifting as a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He is currently pursuing a master's of sports administration with a specialization in market and public relations at Northwestern.
