Brad Hurlbut is in his 17th year at Northwestern, serving as senior associate athletic director of operations since January 2009. Hurlbut, who is on the athletic department's executive staff, currently supervises seven Northwestern programs (men's basketball, field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and volleyball) while managing the facilities department. As a senior associate athletic director, his duties extend to external relations as well, acting as a liaison to Northwestern's alumni relations, government relations and university relations departments and the Big Ten Network. Additionally, Hurlbut is overseeing the facility master planning process for the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Hurlbut began his tenure at NU in 1995 as an assistant athletic director of media services, and managed the publicity for the Wildcat football program's step into the national spotlight during the 1996 Rose Bowl and 1997 Citrus Bowl seasons. During his first five years at Northwestern, Hurlbut oversaw the implementation of the department website (NUsports.com), served as Co-Tournament Director of the 1997 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship and served as Chair of CoSIDA's Gambling Awareness Committee. In September of 2000, Hurlbut was promoted to associate athletic director of external affairs and served in that appointment until March of 2004. He served as the department liaison with corporate sponsors, worked with athletic licensing for Northwestern and oversaw the master plan to place the video board in Ryan Field. Until December of 2008, Hurlbut served as the associate athletic director of intercollegiate administration, supervising Northwestern's recreational sports program and its facilities. He also provided day-to-day supervision for NU's football, men's basketball and women's basketball. Hurlbut served as liaison with Facilities Management on the master plans for the Brown Family Basketball Center and for Anderson Hall, which houses administration, academic services and coaches. Prior to his time at Northwestern, Hurlbut spent time with Meridian Corporation as a policy analyst until becoming the public relations and membership manager of Footwear Industries of America in January 1989. He then went on to serve as a sports information assistant at The George Washington University, before becoming the University of Pennsylvania's director of athletic communications in January 1993. Hurlbut, a graduate of Marietta College, resides in the north suburbs.
