George Chiampas

Dr. George Chiampas is in his second year as an Assistant Team Physician with the Northwestern Intercollegiate Sports Medicine team. He is as an Attending Emergency and Sports Medicine physician at Northwestern University and the Feinberg School of Medicine. This training makes Dr. Chiampas an invaluable resource in the planning and implementation of our emergency preparedness plans to ensure the safety of our student-athletes. In addition, Dr Chiampas is the Medical Director of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle. The Chicago Marathon is one of the largest Marathons in the world, welcoming over 45,000 runners annually each October to the streets of Chicago. Since 2007, Dr Chiampas has served as a Team Physician with US Soccer. Over the past two years he has worked and traveled with the Men's National Team providing medical oversight at National and International events. In addition, he sits on the US Soccer Medical Advisory Committee overseeing Emergency Medical care.
A life-long Chicagoan, growing up in Albany and Jefferson park, he graduated from Loyola Academy high school in 1989. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in 2003 and went on to complete a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship in 2006. He has worked in several Emergency departments in the city of Chicago since his completion of training and has been at Northwestern since 2008. Dr Chiampas is a member of several Emergency and Sports Medicine societies and has published and lectured nationally and internationally.
Dr. Chiampas and his wife, Lori, and two children, Katia and Athan, are honored to be a part of the Northwestern community and excited about the upcoming season. GO 'CATS!
