    Alf Bauman starred at tackle for the 1939, '40 and '41 Wildcat football teams. He was the team's Most Valuable Player in 1941, leading the Wildcats to a 5-3 mark, just one year after NU had finished with a fine 6-2 record.

    Bauman earned All-America honors and was designated as national lineman of the year in 1940, and he participated in both the East-West Shrine Game and the College All-Star Game following his graduation in 1942. He went on to play professionally for the Chicago Rockets (1947), Philadelphia Eagles (1947) and Chicago Bears (1948-50).
