'Cats Give Back Photo Gallery
EVANSTON, Ill.-- Winter break began in earnest this week for Northwestern University students, but the school's student-athletes are continuing to participate in multiple community service initiatives throughout this holiday season.
The 'Cats are giving back this week, not only in the Chicagoland area, but also around the country and around the world. Members of the men's and women's basketball teams have been helping out in the local community this week in between a full slate of practices and games with great organizations like the Salvation Army, Haven Middle School and Misericordia.
As part of its annual winter training trip, the women's swimming and diving team has been working with Boca Helping Hands during their time in the Sunshine State. The organization's mission is, "To provide compassionate service through food and assistance programs to individuals, families, and children to instill dignity and break the cycle of dependence."
On Friday, Dec. 21 the swimmers helped deliver gifts to students at a local school in Boca Raton.
The Wildcat who has traveled the furthest from campus, however, is field hockey standout Kelsey Thompson. Thompson is currently in Cusmapa, Nicaragua on a service trip sponsored by Northwestern's Sheil Catholic Student Center. Thompson and her peers are working with the Falbretto Children's Center. The redshirt sophomore will provide a full recap of her service trip to NUsports.com upon her return.
