EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Athletics, in conjunction with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is hosting its annual Canned Food Drive this week to benefit Family Focus, Evanston.
The Wildcats have five more home events through Saturday at which donations will be accepted with the help of PODS. Last year, 6,100 units were collected and SAAC is looking to eclipse that number in 2012.
PODS has graciously donated a large storage unit to collect all the food given by Northwestern supporters. Here is the remaining schedule of events at which donations will be accepted:
Monday, Nov. 19 - Women's Basketball vs. Howard - 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 20 - Men's Basketball vs. Delaware State - 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 21 - Women's Basketball vs. Yale - 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 21 - Volleyball vs. Illinois - 7 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 24 - Football vs. Illinois - 11 a.m.
For the men's and women's basketball and volleyball contests, the POD will be located inside Gate V of Ryan Field, which is in the northwest corner nearest Welsh-Ryan Arena. The POD will be repositioned for the football game to Gate J, which is on the south end of the facility near Will Call. Representatives from SAAC will be stationed to direct fans to the POD and help collect donations.
Northwestern is offering several great incentives to give this year. If fans do not already have a ticket to either basketball or volleyball, they will be given the opportunity to purchase a Group Rate Ticket for $3 to women's basketball and volleyball and $15 for men's basketball with a food donation.
If fans already have a ticket to any of the five home events, they will be entered into a drawing to win an Under Armour replica basketball jersey. All entries will be entered into one drawing and a winner will be chosen after the football game on Nov. 24.
Please note that Family Focus, the beneficiary, has a special need for oatmeal and tuna this year. Monetary donations will also be accepted during the Canned Food Drive.
