EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Audrey Huth (Shelby, Mich./Utica) of the cross country and junior Jeff Budzien (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) of the football team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Huth received her second career Big Ten Runner of the Week award Tuesday in recognition of her performance at last week's Spartan Invite. Running on the same course that will host the 2012 Big Ten Championships, Huth placed second in a field of 309 runners -- one that included representatives from Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State -- and completed her first 6K test of the year in 21:06.
Budzien also earned weekly honors from the Big Ten after kicking five field goals in Northwestern's 22-13 win over Boston College on Saturday. Budzien connected on field goal attempts of 42, 41, 29, 20 and 19 yards to score the first 15 points of the game for the Wildcats, tying the NU school record for field goals in a single game in the process. The junior from Hartland, Wis., is tied for first in the country with eight made field goals this season and is the only FBS kicker to be perfect at 8-for-8 on the year.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is junior Sammy Albanese (Belmont, Calif./Castilleja) of the softball team. Albanese spoke to a group of NU fans attending last week's football game to participate in the Father-Daughter Day event, discussing healthy living and an active lifestyle. She shared stories about taking part in dance and softball throughout her youth and what it means to her today.
