EVANSTON, Ill. -- Saturday (Sept. 25) is City of Evanston Day at Ryan Field and in anticipation of the event, a pep rally encouraging the community to "Paint Evanston Purple," will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, in front of the Evanston Rotary International Building from 6 to 7 p.m.

"I am excited to live in a community with a Big Ten University and a stellar football program," Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said. "I am looking forward to Evanston residents coming out to show their support for the Wildcats on Evanston Day at Ryan Field. I encourage all residents to help us 'Paint Evanston Purple.' Go Cats!"

The pep rally, held outside the Rotary Building on Sherman Ave. between Davis Street and Grove Street, will be emceed by Northwestern football All-American and Evanston resident Mike Adamle. Mayor Tisdahl and NU President Morton Schapiro will be joined by Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips and Wildcat Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fans and residents attending the pep rally are encouraged to wear purple as select businesses will be offering promotions to individuals sporting the Northwestern-specific hue. Northwestern t-shirts and Wildcat gear will be available for sale at a booth along Sherman Avenue. For a full run-down of the promotions, click here.

"We are absolutely thrilled to host City of Evanston Day at Ryan Field," Fitzgerald said. "As members of the Evanston community, our football family is focused on making a difference in our own backyard and we hope to do that by inviting Evanstonians to Ryan Field for this special day. We look forward to seeing a lot of purple in the stands on Sept. 25 and at the Pep Rally in downtown Evanston on Sept. 23."

Game Day festivities begin two hours before kickoff at Wildcat Alley (9 a.m.), located adjacent to Ryan Field. The family-fun zone will offer a range of activities, including face painting, games, appearances by the marching band, drinks, food and much more. The City of Evanston also will have a presence in the area, including the new fire truck, recently purchased by Northwestern for the City.
