EVANSTON, Ill. -- Midway through the spring postseason, Northwestern's athletic program is in 27th place in the latest U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings, which are administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

The Wildcats, who will receive additional points for their men's golf and softball teams later in June, are on pace to finish with a school-record total for Directors' Cup points, and another top-30 finish.

Northwestern is coming off 29th-place finishes in 2005 and 2006, its best two showings since the standings were created in 1993.

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program's sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.

Please note, standings published midseason are unofficial. Official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's Web site at www.nacda.com.
