EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) today announced its executive board for the 2014-15 school year.

Junior Nandi Mehta (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) from women’s soccer and RS junior Scott Smith (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) from men’s golf have been named Co-Presidents.

Junior Garrison White of wrestling (Concord, N.C./Jay M. Robinson) was elected Vice President.

Fencing senior Katherine Kim (Encino, Calif./Marlborough School) will serve as the SAAC Secretary for 2014-15 and senior swimmer Valerie Nubbe (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) was named the Community Outreach Liaison.

Mehta, received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013, a soccer season that was cut short due to injury.  She has been very active with the Be The Match national bone marrow donor program and at women’s soccer clinics and school visits. She also serves as a member of Northwestern’s P.U.R.P.L.E. Peer Mentor program. Mehta appeared in 18 games as a freshman in 2012 and started all four games she appeared in as a sophomore.

Smith taught young Northwestern fans golf at Field Day and volunteered at NU’s canned food drive. He was named Academic All-Big Ten during the spring of 2012 and is on track to repeat the honor this year.

He also serves as a member of Northwestern’s P.U.R.P.L.E. Peer Mentor program. Smith competed for the ‘Cats in the Windon Memorial Classic this fall and five tournaments as a redshirt freshman in 2012.

White, one of Northwestern’s competitors in the Big Ten Championships in 2014, was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Team and named Academic All-Big Ten this year and won 13 matches as NU’s starter at 125 lbs. White participated at the Dew Elementary Fun Run and Northwestern Field Day.

Kim has posted a 49-23 career fencing record for Northwestern, including a career-best 19 wins this season. Kim went undefeated at NU Duals in 2012-13 and placed fifth at the USFA Burton Open.

Nubbe helped organize the incredibly successful "Breaststroke4BreastCancer" event, which has raised five digits of money for local cancer research over the past two years. She also volunteered at Fuel Up to Play 60 clinics and school visits and also serves as a member of Northwestern’s P.U.R.P.L.E. Peer Mentor program. She ranked among the Wildcats women’s swimming top times this year in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly events as well as the ‘Cats top relay teams in the 200 free and 200 medley. An Academic All-Big Ten selection, Nubbe had a strong showing during the Big Ten Championships.
