EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Luke Farrell (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) of the baseball team and freshman Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International) of the women's golf team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Farrell was tabbed the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after a dominant performance on the mound at historic Wrigley Field on Saturday night, tossing a complete game, three-hit shutout against Michigan. Farrell retired the first 12 batters he faced and ultimately recorded nine strikeouts with no walks allowed. The 6-0 victory over the Wolverines marked the senior's first career complete game.
Tangkamolprasert posted the first top-10 finish of her young Wildcat career, placing ninth as Northwestern finished third in the team standings at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. She had her best round of the tournament Sunday, shooting a 2-over 74 to finish at 13-over 229. Tangkamolprasert started the day in a tie for 17th and vaulted into ninth thanks to three birdies and 10 pars on the final 18 holes.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) of the men's swimming team. As part of a leadership class he is currently enrolled in, Rimkus devised a plan to begin a mentoring program with children at Haven Middle School in Evanston. The program opened the door for several NU student-athletes to mentor adolescents who were selected by their teachers as individuals who benefit the most from the mentorship opportunity.
