EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) of the women's golf team and sophomore Kyle Ruchim (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) of the baseball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Weaver led off the second round of the Lady Buckeye Invitational by firing the fourth hole-in-one in school history, an ace on the par-three, 146-yard eighth hole where Weaver began her round. Weaver shot an even 72 for the second 18 holes to vault from 29th to seventh and ultimately placed 11th in the individual standings. Northwestern, which this week turns its attention to the 2012 Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind., placed sixth at its final regular season tournament.

Ruchim helped guide Northwestern to three victories last week. In Tuesday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee, he plated the winning run with a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 11th inning. He also had two walks and a stolen base in the contest. Ruchim hit safely in all three games of a weekend series at Michigan. He helped NU to a doubleheader sweep of the Wolverines on Saturday, including notching a save on the mound in the first game.Ruchim wrapped up the week by hitting two home runs in Sunday's series finale with the Wolverines.

This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the week is senior Maria Tedeschi (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) of the women's lacrosse team. Tedeschi organized a visit by nearly a dozen of her teammates to Dewey Elementary School in Evanston last week to participate in the school's "Fitness Friday" event. In addition to teaching the students about the basic rules and skills of lacrosse, Tedeschi and her teammates also educated them on the origins of the sport, tying it in to their history lessons on Native Americans.
