Northwestern Releases Excellent Fall Quarter Academic Data

    Jan. 16, 2014

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern student-athletes continued their excellence in the classroom through the fall 2013 quarter, achieving a cumulative GPA of a 3.18.

Sixty-six percent of our student-athletes (322 out of 486) earned quarterly GPAs of 3.00 or higher, with 31 percent of these students having GPAs over a 3.50 (including 25 students with perfect 4.00 GPAs). NU's student-athletes with a better than 3.0 GPA last quarter were honored at halftime of Wednesday's men's basketball game against Michigan State.

Eighteen of Northwestern's 19 athletic teams recorded team GPAs over a 3.00. The top performing teams were women's volleyball (3.50), men's tennis (3.40) and field hockey (3.39).

On a conference and national level, Northwestern student-athletes remain among the elite. When Academic All-Big Ten honors were announced in December, Northwestern's fall student-athletes cracked the 100-award mark in the fall quarter for the first time in school history. At 104 honorees, Northwestern led the Big Ten Conference. Northwestern also led the conference and was among the top in the nation when GSR scores were announced in October.
